SENATE LIBERAL CANDIDATES. [Newspaper Article] — Nhill Free Press — 21 April 1914

SENATE LIBERAL CANDIDATES. The action of the Wodonga branch of the People's Party and the A.W.N.L. is circularising the various Liberal bodies throughout the State, advocating the claims of particular candidates for selection in the Liberal interest for the next Federal elec tions is strongly resented by the exe cutives, and at other centres. When arrangements were completed be tween the different leagues for a selection ballot, it was agreed that nothing should be done to influence the voting, and the action of the Wodonga branch is considered a breach of faith. Steps are being taken to vigorously counteract the influence of the Wodonga letter, and members of the Liberal leagues throughout the length and breadth of the State are advised that the ballot is to bo a thoroufihly open one, and that they should exercise their indi vidual opinions as to the most suitable mon, and not submit to influence from any quarter.

ITCH IN HORSES. [Newspaper Article] — Nhill Free Press — 21 April 1914

ITCH IN HORSES. Mr Otto Maroske, of '' Yalcourt," Yectis East, has just had completed an ingenious contrivance for the pur pose of treating horses infested with small insects which are scarcely visible to the naked eye, and which are usually confined to the animal's less. The pest, which is generally known as " the itch" is most pre valent during the winter and ispring, and is the cause of considerable an noyance to both the animals and their owners. The vessel which Mr Maroske has secured is iuado of steel, 80 feet long, 3 feet wide, and 3 feet deep in the centre, and it generally becomes shallower towards the ends to permit of the easy ingress and egress of the horses, which will be driven through the vessel when it has been filled with solution suitable to the eradication of the pest. The bath, which in appearance is not un like a large boat, will bo fitted with wooden ramps to keep the animals from slipping, and will be placed in the ground, whilst on either side a fenco will be...

MOTOR OAR RE-PAINTING. Before taking a trip to the city at Easter Mr L. H. Strange, of tho Wirn mera Carriage Works, Nelson sfcreofc, Lad his motor car re-painted, the colors used being a decided improvement on the stylo of painting which the manufacturers adopt when tho Overland cars are first turned out, When Mr Strango got his motor car it was painted dark blue. Ho repainted the body of his car, whoels, and undercarriage a beautiful lake or wine color. The body is nicely lined with bright gold, and the edges painted in pretty vermilion, with a split black line; a fine white line is run on to the wheels and carriage. Tho colors blend beautifully, are skilfully executed- and now the car presents a bright and smart appearance being quite a distinct improvement on tho usual j plain painting which hithorto distin guished the autoinbile. j

CHARGE OF LARCENY. On rare occasions persons como in for the congratulations of the police and court officials for their assistance in checking crime, and Messrs Jones and Quinlivan had this distinction in connection with a case at Stawell last week. A man named McNance was lying asleep under a tree in Victoria Park, when Quinlivan and Jones saw another man go and lie alongside of him, put his hand in the sleeper's pocket, and then put it in his own. They informed the police, and a man who gave the name of Tom Marsh, who is well-known in Nhill, was arrested on a charge of larcony from the person, and sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment.
