Variety Entertainment. [Newspaper Article] — The Carcoar Chronicle — 21 January 1898

Variety Entertainment. Ouu local Dramatic Club announces in this issue that its members intend giving a Grand Variety and Minstrel Entertainment on Monday evening, at the Academy of Music, in aid of the Carcoar Brass Band. Amusements of any description are rate here, and, as both the Band and the Dramatic Club are desirable institutions, it is to be hoped the play-going public will be present. The programme is a very attractive one, and, as most of our readers know, the capabilities of the majority of performers is a sufficient guarantee for the merits of the enter tainment.

Entertainment. [Newspaper Article] — The Carcoar Chronicle — 28 January 1898

Entertainment. The members of our local Dramatic Club gave a benefit, to the Carcoar Brass Band, in the form of a Variety* and Minstrel Entertainment, last Monday evening. Rather short notice was given to expect a great number of visitors beyond Carcoar, but \ve were surprised at the number of towns-folk who were conspicuous by their ab sence, considering the object of the performance . Those, how ever, who attended were quite satisfied that they had received the worth of their money, notwithstanding the fact that the entertainment would have been carried out with more spirit under more favorable cir cumstinces. Part 1 consisted of a Minstrel performance, with Messrs Jim and Jack Links as Bones and Tambo, and Mr P, Kelly Interlocutor. Mr P. A. Links, assisted by Miss Smith, acted as accompanist. Harvest Festival at Lyndhurst, FltOM OUK COHRESPOXDEKT. Jan. 27th. A veuy enjoyable and successful gat hering was the Harvest- Home Festival held here yesterday in aid of the Church of England. The Picnic was held in the Racecourse Paddock, kindly lent by Mr McCloskey. The day being beautifully fine, although rather sultry about midday, numerous visitors from Carcoar, Blayaey, Ne ville and the surrounding districts pnt in an appearance, the attendance numbering upwards of 400 persons. The spot selected for the Picnic could not have been better chosen, the ground being very level and well shaded with large eucalypti trees. On the ground was a large, substantial booth, built by the members of both the Church of England and Roman Catholic Church, who joined hands and built a substantial booth, so that it could be used at both Church Pic nics. There was also a refreshment booth, where cool drinks were dis pensed to the satisfaction of the thirsty ones. The luncheon was most sumptuous, a...
