-W AR DEBlATE The "Win the WVar Service" in St. Stephen's. Anglican .. Church on Sun day took an unusual form when a de bat'e onr "Piopliecy and the War," in which M? :A F.Jessop. affirmed that the war was fully foretold in the sicriptures, aid Padre H. ,E: E. Hayes negatived: the- proposition. The sum ming up showed tlhat both speakers agreed? on the ipplication of general principles of propheecy, but not on par ticulai details. There was also -agreement on the view that the war would not be won or lost on purely military lines unless it twas decided; first ulupon, :moral and ?liritual issues which required person al faith and practice .on' the part of every individual, then it was to be an economic decision in which the cost of the whole war would ,be met by a 'faith' or fiduciary method of finance, and lastly the military decision which would in all' probability 'be by com promise owing to the drastic social changes involved.~ "Religious organisation," it was laid, "would be. ent...

ELTHAM'S LAST QUARTER VICTORY EPPING HAVE HARD FIGHT THE attendances at the semi-final matches were affected by the adverse weather conditions which prevailed on Saturday, but those who braved the elements witnessed very interesting and exciting football. Official Send-Offs Suggested Eltham Prqgress Association sug I, gested to the Council that some kind of civic send-offs should be tendered soldiers leaving the district for over seas-service. The President (Councillor Braid) said that, while the Council was anx ious to co-operate in such functions, in view of the widespread area of the Shire, it was impossible to hold civic send-offs. He pointed out that councillors in their ridings attended any functions arranged to farewell soldiers. Councillor Andrews: We have a strong ladies' committee. in Eltham which works and provides parcels of goods to boys leaving the district. I have attended several such functions and made presentations on behalf of the Eltham War Service Committee. Councillor 'Braid: If any send-offs are arranged local councillors will be there. I think presentations to sol diers should take a standard form. Councillor McLellan: We have done so in Hurstbridge and each soldier is presented with a wallet. A suggestion was...
