Academic Dean Sought Capt. Paul J. Weitz will be at Behrend, October 7 where he will receive the first Behrend College Medallion. Faculty and students can purchase tickets to attend the luncheon. Behrend College has achieved much status as a four year institution. With the addition of new faculty members, new academic courses, and greater student enrollment, Behrend's anticipated growth will continue slowly and gradually, eventually leading to that of a fine academic liberal arts college. For the future growth plan of Behrend to continue, thirteen new faculty positions were opened, along with the position of an academic dean of faculty. For Behrend to have been considered as a college by Pennsylvania State University, a few provisions had to be met. A committee known as the Task Force was established. Dean David Spalding of Behrend was chairman of the committee along with Behrend faculty and PSU faculty as members. The Task Force spent a year studying individual colleges i...

Transvestite to Speak Two of the Behrend Student Union Board's biggest attractions of the year will be making their appearances this week on campus. A lecture featuring Christine Jorgenson and a miniconcert starring Gove Scrivenor will highlight the week's agenda. Christine Jorgenson's appearance at Erie Hall on Tuesday, October 2 at 8 p.m. could very well be the most unusual program presented at Behrend this year. Christine gained notoriety for becoming one of the first persons in the world to have a sex change. This startling occurrence skyrocketed her intobecoming America's number one topic of discussion during the fifties. She is credited with receiving more newspaper space than any other individual in the history of journalism. Despite the- snickering and outrage, Miss Jorgenson has handled her fame admirable. She has appeared on TV, in nightclubs, Broadway, and summer stock. During her lectures she touches on the subject of transsexuality, . homosexuality, transvestism...

Letter To The Editor Soccer Team Needs Support Dear Editor : I'd like to express my concern about the lack of student participation at Behrend. This past Friday night the cheerleaders sponsored a pep rally on the ski slope. The purpose of pep rallies, to the best of my knowledge, is to give the team, in this case, our soccer jocks, spirit and let them know that they have our support while they are out on the field doing their best to win. I can honestly say that had our soccer team depended wholly oh the support given them Friday night, they might just as well, have handed a winning score to Indiana on Saturday.... . For the amount of students enrolled at Behrend, it seems to me that a good many more than 25 should have found the time and the little bit of effort needed to show our guys that we're behind them. I'd like to congratulate the soccer team for their fine victory over IUP and urge the student body to give them a little more support next time. Holly Hurlock Clean It...

Editorial Opinion Turn. Turn, Turn The college campuses are in a period of quiet now. Ten years ago they were exploding and now that the Fallout has settled all is quiet again. There is much that can happen under the cover of such quiet, especially when beneath it are the memories of the revolutions of the sixties. This generation of college students, 'and perhaps the underclassmen more so, were too young to realize the importance of what was happening on the campuses. We were _Dlayine dodge ball on the playground while students at Columbia University were taking over buildings. We were learning geometry while students at Berkeley reintroduced the phrase civil disobedience to a nation ot angered students. We can all remember Kent at -rue By Jeffrey Matson' Staff Writer State and probably more than a few of us participated in a high school version of protest by wearing arm bands or not going to class. Still, the real revolution was out of touch for us. We were still safe in...

Where d It Go? Dear Editor: Why is there a hole in the wall in Lawrence Hall Lobby? Could it be due to the fact that the clock is missing? It seems the clock disappeared in May of '73, during Behrend's Spring Arts Festival Weekend. No one seems to know if the clock was stolen or broken, but the kids in Lawrence sure do miss having it.?Not a day goes by~_= without someone asking the time. A lot of freshmen ask why there is a hole in the wall. The

I3SJ8USBJ Last weekend a buddy of mine and myself packed up our sleeping bags, a tent and enough-' food for three days and left on a trip I will remember for quite some time. Our destination was Mosport, Canada home of the Canadian Grand Prix Race. We crammed all of our camping equipment into his small MGB on a warm Friday afternoon and expected plenty of beautiful weather all weekend. Boy was that ever a mistake! I heard that Canadian weather changes very quickly and now I believe it. The sun could be shining brightly and before you knew it the rains were pouring down. It seemed like we went through all four seasons in those three days. Aside from the unexpected weather the trip was an enjoyable event. When we arrived we pitched camp, fixed some supper, and tried to relax somewhat from the six hour journey. It did not really seem that bad because the scenery was fantastic. After we ate we went to the garage to take a look at the cars. If you have never seen a formula I car or...
