Asking Around [Newspaper Article] — Capitol Times — 10 December 1986

Asking Around .lan Travers/Editor Thank-You For That Early Present! I love Christmas. I love the decorations, the cookies, the carols and the excited children standing starryeyed staring at Santa in the mall. I love the giving and even, heaven forbid, the shopping. But I guess the part I like best is getting to see my whole family together at one time. We all have a lot for which to be thankful. Many times throughout the year people do nice things for us, but how many times do we really take the time to say thank-you, and really mean it. This leads me to my purpose, and gives me an opportunity to say thank-you for the early present I received this Christmas season. When I volunteered to take over the fallen Capital Times last summer, I knew nothing of running a newspaper, let alone laying it out. A meeting was held the first week of school and people actually showed up to join the staff. Not only did they show up but every one there that day is still on the staff todav. I ...

Into the Imaginary Sunset [Newspaper Article] — Capitol Times — 10 December 1986

Into the Imaginary Sunset Hearing someone yell out my name, I looked around to sec Beth Jordan walking toward me down the high school corridor. This couldn't be happening to me. What would Beth Jordan, the most beautiful girl in the Western World and the image of human perfection, have to say to me, the 1970's version of the nerd? "Would you like to come to my party on Friday night? " she asked. "Sh-sh-sure," I stuttered out, adjusting my black horn rimmed glasses. "Good, be at my house at 8:00," she stated as she walked off down the corridor. I stood dumbfounded in the middle of the hall thinking about what had just happened. Would I like to come to her party; only as much as Rhett Butler would like to carry Scarlett upstairs or as much as Dorothy wanted to get back home from Oz. I had loved Beth from a distance for what seemed like years. Her long black hair and gorgeous figure would flash bctore my teenage imagination as I rescued her from evildoers, and we would ride off...

Rupee's Christmas List is Complete [Newspaper Article] — Capitol Times — 10 December 1986

Rupee's Christmas List is Complete By Joe Kupec Getting into the spirit of the upcoming holidays has been a challenge for me. Between classes and outside work I just can't seem to find the time to get all of my Christmas shopping and errands done. In an effort to alleviate this situation, I am compiling a list of things I'd like to give this Christmas. After reviewing my list maybe you will be amused or relieved in comparison to your own list. For all of the technical majors, I am trying to get a reasonable number of junior engineers in the spring class who will be of the opposite sex. I have gone to great pains to insure that there will be an adequate assortment of shapes and styles to please even the most finicky of technology majors. As a second choice I am negotiating with Hewlett-Packard to send everyone in the programs one of their wonderful machines that use inverse logic. I have found resistors on sale from AMP Inc. A large asnrtment, individually wrapped . will be d...

Sports Wrap-Up [Newspaper Article] — Capitol Times — 10 December 1986

Sports Wrap-Up By Mike Camilli As the air begins to get colder, the fall sports season is drawing to a close. The Capital College soccer team finished its season with a victory over Lancaster Bible College. The win brought the soccer team's record to 3-5 for the year. At Penn State's main campus, the football team also ended up with a victory. Thus, the Nittany Lions remain undefeated despite their "incredibly tough" schedule. As the fall sports season is coming to a close, the winter sports season is just getting underway. At Penn State, Harrisburg, there are two intercollegiate winter sportsbowling and basketball. In addition, there are various intramural athletic opportunities (including an intramural basketball league) during the coming months. The basketball team is off to a strong start this season despite being made up almost entirely of new players. With only.one returning member from last year, the team is off to a 3-1 record. The one veteran, Jim Leedy, will be gra...
