The recent conTention of tobacco grow ers atLoxington passed a resolutiou "urg ing their Representatives at Washington to use their influence to have tho tax on tobacco removed." In the preamble to tho resolution they declaro "it ia to tho interest of the pro ducoia to have tho tax abolished." Now wo may bo mistaken in the mat ter, but wo can't see where the removal of this tax would benefit the grower. It would not effect the price of tho raw article to any noticeable extent. The producer would find that tho market then would be governed by the supply and demand just as it is now. But oven admitting that the removal of tho tax would benefit tho grower wo do not favor tho proposition. Tobacco is classed among luxuries, and wo believe the luxuries should be taxod.
