'THE LADIES STOnE COLLEGE QIRLS CLOTHE3 The Magic Eye By O. MIKE HILLOCYCLE Sunday night on the Show of the Week Harry Salter and his orchestra was presented with Patsy Norman and Buddy Clark as featured vocal- ists. Wc think that Buddy Clark Is good but wc have never heard any- one like Miss Norman. She present- er that selection for which she gained nation-wide publicity "Old Man Mose." This Is the same song which brought down the house at Casa Manana last summer when she sang with Jan Garbcr's ork and It created a sensation on "The Show" last Sun- day equally as well. We think that Mrs. McAdoo Kcaton Is the best organist In this part of the country as evidenced by her choice and presentation of musical numbers last Thursday. She plays with smoothness and accuracy both class- ical and popular "nombrcs dc miist- quc" unsurpassable In our estimation. In the movie "Going Places" we thought that Louis Armstrong liter- ally stole the show with his hot ti lim- pet playing. He Is a true ...

BjOn the Level Candid Campus Cracks kS editorial comment EDITORIAL COMMENT OURS TO RULE What a man does for himself dies with him ; what he does for his community lives on. Today we are students of Howard Payne College ; some of us are voters. Tomorrow the destiny the progress the fate of this great nation rests in our hands. What are we going to do with it. It is a tremendous task a gigantic job but regardless it falls into our hands as the future rulers of the nation. Whether the problem be a personal one or one concerning the community or the country as a whole it is always an advantage to meet the issue squarely. Up to the time that the depression hit the land in the early thirties discontent and complaint concerning the operation of our government was practically unheard of among the citizenship but today many of our people among which we find some of our best citizens can scarcely be heard to say a complimentary word as re- gards the operation of their government. "A Good Neighbor" Would Solve The World's Problems When Sam Walter wrote : "Let me live in a house by the side of the road and be a friend to man" he coined a great philosophy one which will live in the hearts of man so long as he be upon the In short "be a good neighbor. That's the only way that the face of this earth. They aren't going to be settled mainly through relief agencies through legislation or through "scientific" methods. Charity or- ganization societies are necessary in our complex life but by far the best way they work is through "good neighbors" men and women who become responsible for a family or an individual. Legislation is necessary because there are certain issues which only the state can determine through fundamental laws which all citizens must obey if justice is to be done and generally accepted standards are to be observed. " Settis GibW&c k 'THE LADIES STORE" COLLEGE GIRLS CLOTHES The Magic Ey By O. MIKE HILLOCYCLE We wish to say that the band did exceptionally well on the broadcast Saturday. From our vantage point In the balcony everything came out nicely. We especially like the com- position "The 142nd Infantry March" by W. R. Parker. The papers have it that the number has received much praise from the heads of the military unit for which the number was named; we think that It was well deserved praise. Since Jack Benny has elevated a member of his cast almost to his own level there has been much dis- cussion as to who that person is. You know of whom we speak "Rochester" that colored boy who pulls more good ones than a cross- eyed dentist. He is not just black- faced as many would think but Is really and truly a member of the race which he typifies Those of you who saw "You Can't Take It With You" or "Thanks For the Memory" vividly recall his superb acting. He is much in demand by motion picture...

-D On the Level I Candid Campus Cracks II SO WHAT ! ! ! EDITORIAL COMMENT ---iiipTiiMiiili"Tj COLLEGE FRIENDSHIP "Our friendships hurry to short and poor conclusions because we have made them a texture of wine and dreams instead of the tough fiber of the human heart" to quote Emerson. If the most valuable assets that our college years offer were singled out friendships formed in the course of our trek through the portals of an institution of higher learn- ing would rank as the leading contender for the top honors. Perhaps the greatest lesson that the college curriculum offers is compatibility. Too often however we are prone to substitute the word friendship in a relationship which would be more appropriately characterized by the term acquaintanceship. Some people like us for what we are; other people like us in spite of what we are. These two statements differentiate between our acquaintances and friends. These statements may sound like a paradox at first glance but let us delve int...

Hostilities got under way with the Jacket's taking an early lead which was soon overcome by the bearded visitors. From that point the teams played on fairly even terms with the Davids seemingly content to hold their own while treating the fans to some plain and fancy ball handling dribbling and passing. The half time score 24-21 with the Davids leading. The last half saw the bewhlskered quintet lead till the closing minutes of the game. At that stage the Jacket's started an offensive drive that couldn't be halted. Despite the efforts of the Davids the Yellow Jac...

Spring is just around the corner and again this year as in every year past we are faced with the same problem of educating the students among other things not to cut the campus but to aid in their small way towards beautifying their surroundings. On one or two previous occasions wo have hinted this fact and it has been brought to the minds of stu- dents by members of the faculty. vJn th LsVl Candid Campus Cracks CAPS in lower case EDITORIAL COMMENT "by skipper" The title "Pope of Peace" spontaneously accorded to Pius XI serves at once as a tribute to the inward character of the man and as a measure of the infinite tragedy which surrounded his life. The selflessness and godliness which drove him to unremitting effort for the restoration of order and good will in the world gone mad rendered more pathetic the fact that the objective remained far away. Pope Pius XI the "Pope of Peace" Had Great Task The role of spiritual leader in a time when spirituality is all but destroyed by the surge of animal ferocity in the hearts and minds of men is most difficult. Only the pure- sent courage the finest confidence in religion's promise for the race of men could enable a man to stand up under the burden. Pius XI physically frail was spiritually a man of steel.
