A report has been circulated in the eity that only property owners and free iolders are permitted to vote at Satur- day's school election. This is not a fact; any holder of a poll tax has the right to cast his ballot at this election. Interest in the election is warm and the announcement of John Harper to the effect that there will be a third ticket causes some to ask the question; "Has tha ring been scared by the an- nounpement that Harper is not legally entitled to compensation as a member of the school board and decided to drop him at the last minute?" Coupled with this is the belief by some that if Harper is dropped he may later be appointed secretary of the board as it would be legal for a non- active member to receive compensation for such wprk. House died Wednesday at Charlottenburg Germany. Death was unexpected and a shock to El Paso friends. Accompanied by Mrs. House the El Paso merchant left here on January 18 for a pleasure trip through Europe the first vacation he had taken since coming to El Paso 12 years ago. After arriving in Germany he was troubled with catarrh of the ear and found an operation necessary. The operation was performed by Dr. Jansen. a spec- ialist of Charlottonburg which is near Berlin on April 10th and in letters written by Mrs. House to friends in Elks which he wore to Philadelphia J reunion j El Ta.so she said that Mr. House was j improving although he was very weak j from the effects of the operation. Michael Hennessey superintendent of the Sierra Madre mineB in the Escon- dida mountains who is in the city states the shaft dn his property Is in ore of silver gold and lead running 45 percent lead 15 ounces silver and ?5 in gold. The lead Is principally galena mixed with carbonatses. On the surface 'the vein shows a width 'of 30 feet which will be crosscut from wall to rari when the shaft reaches a depth of 50 feet- The out- crop and xhe workings show that this large vein is continuous in length and depth.
