Frank Dobie Award in January while reading an article in the Texas Library Journal: "J. Frank Dobie, the great Texan and great writer, who did so much for Texas libraries while he was alive, left a will which set up the J. Page 1 8 SACHSE SENTINEL MAY 1985 GREEN-UP CAMPAIGN The Citizens for a Progressive Sachse have announced details for their three key projects for 1985. The civic group's "Green Up Sachse" campaign will be held in May and again in October, the city-wide Citizens Survey will be con- ducted in May and June, and the Octo- berfest-style jubilee is slated for late September/early October. "The next few months are important ones for our group and for the city. One project will make Sachse a more beautiful place to live. Another will let us know more about ourselves - and what we expect from our city in the near future. And the third project will simply be a lot of fun for everyone," explains Larry Holdsn, Citizens for a Progressive Sachse organizer. The book contains listings of 500 women for their outstanding volunteer work and/or careers. Ruth Franklin, resident of Sachse, is one of the women honored in this book. Mrs. f ranklin feels that one of the most important qualities for success for tiy's woman is accepting challenges, received her master's degree after 26 years away from her undergraduate math studies. She has taught math from junior high to junior college level. She also has taught education and chemistry at Westminster College and Bible Institute. Mrs. Franklin was a minister's wife, helping him train missionary students. After she was widowed, she remained active in church, teaching Sunday School, and in her community.
