Friday December 8 1939 THE McMURRY WAR WHOOP The Arrow Head ii) Howard oitKiA- I'd hate to nsk the avcrnRo McMurrinn of today to tell me nlKHit Ovid Donnldaon. No doubt the name sounds for- eign because it was 12 years ago last spring that he lout his life after an accident in a local natatorium. ' Ovid had been elected captain of the McMurry football team for Uic 1027 season. He had boon the spark of the '2(1 team which like that of '3'.) (and '38 for that matter too) won only one game. The deadly defensive work and uncanny spearing of pass- on by left End Donaldson was one bright sjwt in otherwise by Left End Donaldson was one bright sixit in otherwise drab season. On practically any other team but McMurry he would have likely been accorded all-conference honors. Ho went swimming the day before school was out in the spring of '27. Diving into shallow water he broke his neck succumbing the next afternoon after an operation. Long before practice begun members of the team met and dec...

Friday January 12 1940 THE McMURRY WAR WHOOP Paec Three The Arrow Head' BY CLYDE WOOD (Guest Columnist) - - A ; Putting one little word nfter another and wosHcring what there is to write. Oh j'os Trinity's Tigers champions of the Texas con- ference last season are looking mighty potent again. So are the Texas Wosleyan Hams. While ACC McMurry and How- ard Payne lose pro-conference games the Rams and Tigers are winning. Looks as if they may finish one-two in the conference race. TWC lost most of its best men last year Milburn Pigg Captain Johnny Edwards Lon Goldstein and one or two others. But this winter the Ward brothers the McClung brothers and the rest of the Fort Worth Methodists are shaping up another powerful team. Seems that Texas Wos- leyan has more to offer basketball players than any other Texas conference school JI'm sure it's rather disconcerting to the ACC Wildcats to lose every ball game that comes along. With some of the best high school players of Texas during the pas...
