The latest example is provided by Eric Cummings, who although beaten in the greatest of Scottish footraces, put up a perform ance that will make his name one to conjure with when future talk reverts to the renowned "Powderhall." But read .what Scottish papers have to say about Eric. He thought the handicap of 31,a yards didn't give him a chance--until yesterday, when Cununing spran...

Country Fire Authority. At prcsent the danger of fire is ex tremely high, and it is requested by the regional officer, Mr. J. Carboon, that everyone should co-operate by taking especial precautions. Several fires have been started by landowners using phosphorous based poisons for getting rid of rabbits. The use of this type of poison during the proclaimed summer period is unlawful, and pro secution can follow under section 40 of the C.F.A. Act. Recent improvement to rui'al fire brigade equipment made-by the Coun tray Fire Authority have been to sup ply two motor powered pumps, one to the Acheron R.F.B. and one to Kori ella brigade. In England [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton, Taggerty and Acheron Express — 26 January 1951

In Eng and The following is an extract from a letter received from Miss Rose Collis, who is in England. 9/11/50.-This morning I saw the Lord Mayor's Show. I took up a po sition about 9,30 a.m. .or the kerb opposite the Law Courts, where the procession halted and the ilayor and party got out. The whole thing was very picturesque, but I felt it was militaristic too. Everything was on civil defence, but it seemed to be pre 'paring people for another war--not showing what had been done. The bands are wonderful; to-day there were 15. Also, my favorite Irish .Guards, in kilts, . were marching. There were grotesque figures, and some just humorous. Just before the Lord Mayor arrived a host of digni taries in court dress drove up in their Rolls Royces, etc. (I saw one man in red velvet, with gold lacings and white stockings. The Lord,Mayor's coach is a very ornate affair; which, I believe, has no brake. It is covered in gold paint and pictures of Cupid, etc. There were powdered footmen ridin...
