The Gunpowder Explosion on the Regent's Canal. A trrrible gunpowder explosion took place an the morning of the and of October instant, upon the Regent's Canal, which resulted in the los» of three lives, and involved the destruction of property to an amount which is incalculable. From the voluminous reports of the occur- rence whu:h have appeared we yal her «hat »horily before five o'clock iii the morning five barges, or rather, to cist ilir correct expression, .. monkey boats," were pas»ing in low of a steam-tog -long the Canal. The tug, of course, led the van, next to ii came the Mary and the Jane, then followed the Tilbury, the Lime house, and a fifth, the Dee. These "monkey boats," about half the size of a Thames barge, will hold about so tons in the shape of cargo, and their cargo was, as might be expected, of a verv miscellaneous character, since their province is to act like a carrier's cart on a large «cale between landon and various .niano towns accessible by water carriage....

The Shah's Diary in England. [Newspaper Article] — Northern Territory Times and Gazette — 26 December 1874

The Shah's Diary ia England. The Acmitny publishes a letter from Teheran,' da»ed August io, B'ving some account of the Shah's iary in England. It was pub- lished, she writer says, a short time ago. and contains' s 08 quarto Cges of bad print. At times the ok has th« air of being- a trtw diary-jottings, that .% not mean, far p:&;;c¿:;vii : st other: it became*, however, evident that hr wrote the thing simply for the sake of having it published.
