The Victorian Dairy Expert. [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser — 12 August 1893

The Victorian Dairy Expert. The cablegrams have informed tbe colonial public of a great many of the sayings and doings of Mr. Wilson, of Victoria. As he is now on passage home to Melbourne, it will be better for our readers to await his general official leport upon his visit to Europe, as the many cablegrams must be taken with a grain of salt, and for which we are sure Mr. Wilson is not responsible. If the import of hams and bacon into England for one year amounts to £9,500,000 sterling, we do think that Australia is able to get a. sliare of such a trade. New Zealand is exporting hams and bacon. This winter has been enough to cure anything in the pig line. Some very curious stories are abroad as to what Mr. Wilson's opinions are about butter and cheese. He has dono service by directing a...

Confidence aad Credit. The following lines appeared in a Canadian newspaper in the year 1878. It was there stated they were written in the year 1826, but were not inappli cable to 1878. Many will think that they are at least equally applicable to this present year of grace. - ine day was dark, the markets dull, The 'Change was thin, gazettes were full, And half the town was breaking ; The countersign of cash was ' Stop 1' Bankers and bankrupts shut up shop, And honest hearts were aching. ' When near the bench, Biy fancy spied A faded form with hasty stride, Boneath griof'a burden stooping ; Hor name was ' Credit,' and she said * Her father, ' Trade,' was lately dead, Her mother, ' Commerce,' droopiug. . ' The smile that she was wont to wear Was withered by the hand of care ; Her eyes had lost their lustre ; Her character was gone, she said, For lately she had been betrayed, And nobody would trust her. *' That honest ' Industry ' had tried To gain fair credit for his bride, And found...

A Northern River Dairy Company. [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser — 12 August 1893

A Northern River Dairy Company From the Manning River Times we learn of the first annual meeting of the Lower Manning Co-op. Dairy Co., which was held at Croki on the 29th July. The Chairman of the Board of Directors (Mr. Evenden), in introduc ing the business of the meeting, said that shareholders had every reason to be proud of the results of the first year's work, more especially considering the trying time through which the district had passed — a season which one speaker said he had not before experienced during a 30 years' resi dence on the Manning — and one which had interfered with the milk supply, which did not amount to half what had reasonably been expected. In the disposal of their produce they had met with great success. From the first lb. of butter made in the factory on the -» opening day, up to the present, they k had realised top market rates, and they ? had now orders for four times as much Jm butter as .they could at present supply. ^B The report showed that a tot...
