MUNICIPAL ECONOMY. Sir,— Can you inform the public, and more especially the rate-payers of Ipswich what had become of the Aldermen who were lately elected, on principles of economy, yesterday afternoon, when Alderman O'Malley's motion for the retrenchment of salaries was to   have come on? These gentlemen seem well up in clap -trap when craving the sweet voices of the electors; they know that all the rate-payers are against the extravagant waste of public money, but when the time   comes for them to act decisively, in accordance with the promises in which they were   elected, there is not one of them to be seen. Their sclf-interests and the fear or offending a customer then becomes so apparent as almost to disgust the inhabitants. The Town Surveyor acts as Town Clerk in larger municipalities than ours ; and if the Mayor encourages the present abuse for private purposes, he will do wrong.
