AVENEL. [Newspaper Article] — Euroa Advertiser — 25 September 1885

AVENEL. FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT A football match was played on the local ground on Saturday last, ostensibly between the Pranjip Creek and Monea teams, but actuoally the Pranjip team was liberally supplemented from Longwood and Monea was assisted by some of our local footballers. The Pranjip men proved a very formidable lot of players, as a rule, heavier and smarter men than the Monea team, which without the aid of the Avenel men, would have made but a sorry stand against their opponents; as it was the game terminated greatly in favor of Pranjip, the score being - Monea, 1 goal 3 behinds, to Pranjip's 3 goals and 5 behinds, the only Monea man who really played the game thoroughly being Jeffries. Of the Pranjip's team the most noticeable for their good, determined play, were Rowney, Kennedy, Egan, Brennock, and Maxfield. On the sanme evening a meeting was held at the Imperial Hotel to wind up the Football Club for the present season, at which it was resolved to merge football, cric...
