LOOSE PLUG POINTS. [Newspaper Article] — South Coast Bulletin — 26 April 1929

LOOSE PLUG POINTS. The small piece of bent nickel wire which serves as the outer electrode in ? certain types of sparking plug may In time work loose, and, by causing the spark gap to become wider than normal, result in misfiring. It Is a fairly easy matter to make the nickel point secure If the plug be gripped by the hexagon in the vyce and a smart tap be given to the metal on each side ' of the plug point with a Une-polfital .centre, punch. After this has been done,' the spark gap should be correct ly adjusted to 4 mm, or about l/50th Inch, which Is easily accomplished by bending the outer electrode towards or away from the central electrode.

A punctured float often can be re paired In the following manner: En large the existing leak by punching a nail into it, and drain out the petrol Then warm the float, and while still warm plug the hole with a piece of an ordinary match. If shellac Is then ? applied to the match and any suspect ed places, and the float allowed to cool, the shellac will be drawn well Into the holes, and, since It Is lnsolu able In petrol, will eflectlvely seal any apertures, however small. Shellac ap plied to the threads of petrol pipe unions will prevent any slight leakage which may occur.
