We have at other times, and repeatedly, registered our opinion of Bellefonte'. We have more than once taken occasion to speak of its location and surroundings; and have prophesied largely concerning its future. Xot long ago we, by accident, overbeard some gentleman, on; of whom was a Philadelphia-.!, and the others of Williamsport, discussing tlie improvements-of tlie flay, when it was remarked by one of tho party, and agreed to by tlie others, that Bellefonte, iu tha number and quality of its improvements was not "excelled by any town in the Slate. The permanency of its buildings is a feature of tlie town, which at once attracts the attention of observing visitors. We felt our pride in the immensity of our town incense; and were constrained to say that these gentlemen were right. They had noticed, what some of our capatilists seem ignorant of as vet, the unequalled facilities to be found within our borough limits for great manufacturing enterprises. As we have remarked on other...

Within the past week, we had occasion to visit the Allegheny mountains. We found a great quantity of snow; and saw innumerable deer—tracks. We pursued at short range, a herd of eighteen, and although our armament consisted, of a hand a^c, and clay pipe, we felt all the enthusiasm attendant upon the situation. We don't feel specially called upon to say that we did not kill more than three. Xew Stoke.—P. H. Haupt & Co., have opened iu tlie room formerly occupied by E. L. Greene,of Milcsburg,a complete stock of Dry Goods, Groceries, and in fact every thing necessary to a country store. O. B. Holier, one of this firm, is a gentleman of twenty years experience in the business, and-this fact alone, should, with a fair show ensure the success of the firm. We feel assured that the people of Milesburg, aud indeed every other place within reach, will exhibit a due consideration for their own interests by giving this new firm a call.

Not a little disgust was felt by the boys of this :placc, when, during. the;triid of-an important case in court, last week, were requested to leave in a body." They thought that by their presence they showed a laudable desire for information, and were at a loss to account for the failure ou the part of their seniors to appreciate then- motives. Tho defendant in this case was charged with the commission of adultery ; and the boys, it seems, only desired to familiarize themselves with the theory of tho law on this subject. In this case, we see clearly exemplified, by the expulsion of the 'boys from the court room, the familiar sayings that there, is no royal road to learning, and that the pathway to the temple of knowledge, is thick set with obstacles.

Thieves.—Some individuals who. .have entirely lost their own relf-respeet, aud who fail'to put a pro-par estimate upon the respect of others, arc now engaged in replenishing their wardrobe, and preparing for the rugged blasts of winter. In this, they may possibly think that they but ..exercise an ordinary prudence; aud we'should certainly agree with them, were it not for the fact that their method of recuperating thenstock, strikes us as not a little irregular.— In fact with tha most favorable construc tion of which their acts are susceptible, they only amount to downright, dastardly theft, 'ftie stripping of clothes lines has for some time been tlie chief amusement, but we by no means intimate that their efforts are confined to this branch : of their business. We should be tempted to read them a lecture on the enormity of their moral turpitude, where it not that from their acts we-are inclined to think them beneath re "proach. ¦ * Git.vxi) Soi'i'iits.—On Thursday cycling of l...

Thief Caught.—A rough looking chap entered the hoot and shoe .store of Messrs, McCaffry it Co., Wednesday morning, ,611 the pretence of being a rheumatism doctor. He remained but a few moments and then wont out. The clerk discovered that the key of the outside door, which he had--laid on the desk a few moments before, was missing. The doctor was suspected of having taken it. Mr. McCaffory immediately followed him and found him in tlie store of Abiaai Sussman, and charged him with the theft j which ho stoutly denied ; but on examuia" tion the key was found iu his "bundle.'' He was taken before Squire Klinger and gave his name as Samuel llanpt trom Iowa lie was committed to jail for trial at the January court.
