An Amusing Tonnes Incident.— Doubtless the tunnel on * the Eastern •Bailroad, just east of theldepot in Salem, has been the scene of numerous amuBing incidents but we doubt if any thing of a more ludicrous character has ever taken place in : it than the following : It seems that a few days since a lady and hpr sister, and a grown up son of the latter, took the care at Boston for the East, the sisters occupying asbatto-Es^f^hmw^sft^it^^ J& tering tho tunnel, the aunt, to have a little fun, rose up carefully, reached over to the seat the young man had been occupying, seized some one b y the col-: Iarshook him soundly, and then resumed her seat. A most original and eccentrio character was old Billy Burchfather of the celebrated "Sim Francisco Minstrel" of the same name. For many years he kept at Oswego|a popular ale-house, and was much esteemed for the- peculiar mellowness of hia mixtures and dryness of his jokes. He was a man of generous impulses, and his proverbial liberality made him the subject of many solicitationg and importunities. In the early clays of the war for the Union we all remember the ' almost constant demands thai were,|rnade upon the loyal people both for public and private charities. Of course Mr. Burch was never neglected. One day it happened that the calls for "material aid" came unusually thick and fast. Thrice, aye, four times was he asked, and tour times diil he cheerfully respond. Late in the mternoon a fifth applicant presented herself in tho person of a fair damsel and agent of the local "Aid Society. " This was too much"even for even Burch's patriotic spirit, and the maiden was repulsed iu a...
