Mr. De Largo started to wall up his well Arith rock, tho wooden curbing of which had become vorv rotten and unsafe. Tho well is fortj'-three feet deep. Ho had pro gressed with the work until about ton feet of the wall was completed and Mr. DeLarge was engaged at work when the rotten curbing above him suddenly gave way and the well commenced filling up with sand aud debris from the curbing. Mr. DeLarge, who is agile as a cat, almost sprang for the lad dor and, as he states, "climbed for all lio knew how" but only suc ceeded in getting up a few feet whon the caving earth caught aud hold him about thirty feet beneath tho surface.
