A man lately died in England whose property is valued at £7,000,000, or $35,000,000. ¶ A lady, given to tattle, says she never tells anything only to two classes of people—those who ask her, and those who don't. ¶ The barber who dressed the head of a barrel has been engaged to 'fix up' the locks of a canal. ¶ 'Mr. Smith, I've just kicked your William out of doors.' NEWS BY THE GOLIAH. Hon. John B. Weller and lady, and the Hon. J. A. MoDougal arrived at San Francisco on the steamship Jortes last week. All the members of the Congressional delegation are now in the State. Late Oregon papers inform us of more dian massacres any>ng the overland emigrants. Recently a party of some sixty Indians attacked a train about fifteen miles beyond Fort Bois, and killed eight of the male emigrants, and carried off four women and several children, together with a largo amount of stock and other property. A body of mounted ! troops had been despatched in pursuit of the savages. From the Jackson Sentinel we learn that a party of Chinese having built a dam on Clinton Creek, thus diverting the water and depriving the Americana below from using it, the latter tore away a part of it, when they were assaulted by the Chinamen and ono of them severely injured. Paschal Bequette, of California, has been appointed .Receiver of Public .Moneys at Benicia, California, vice Charles Loring, who was murdered lately at New York. Garland Hunt, of Kentucky, has been appointed Indian Jgent in Utah. Col. Benton, candidate for Congress from the St. Louis District, has been defeated by Louis M. Kennett, Whig, the latter having received a majority-of 1008. The army expenses tor the current year will be over $7,000,000.
