Page 10 SOUTHWESTERN TIMES Thursday, August 14, 1947 City To Be Brighter As 85 Street Lights Blaze On Next Week The installation of 85 new street lights in the City of West Univer- sity will be completed Monday or Tuesday, it was announced this week by P. W. Joplin, Houston Lighting and Power Company exe- cutive. The lights were donated to the city free of charge by the light company on a plan based on gross revenues which the firm re- ceives from the city. Workmen are now completing the final installations on Auden. Two days will be required, Mr. Joplin said, to tie all lamps into the circuit. Completion of the work gives the city 211 street lights for ap- proximately 411 intersections. In- stallation of the lights was ap- proved in December of 1945. Work was delayed while a survey was made to determine locations for the lights.
