LAW COURTS. POLICE COURT-PALMERSTON Wednesday, December 9. (Before Mr. E. W. Price, S.M.) Charles Wilson, for being drunk and disorderly at Southport, was fined £1 and costs, including boat hire for self and policeman, 30s. George Stott and William Leslie, two of the crew of the Flower of the Yarrow, were charged, at the instance of W. Cook, Shipping-Master, with being in the pro- vince without a discharge from that vessel. Fined £3 each, and imprisoned for 48 hours.

TELEGRAMS. SOUTH AUSTRALIA. Adelaide, December 10. [Per favor of Mr. Little.]   The mail sent per Atjeh, via Galle, arrived in Adelaide early this week. The mail per same vessel to Batavia, and thence per Torres Straits mail service to Melbourne, arrived at Townsville on December 9th per steamer Normanby. The transit of Venus was success- fully observed at Melbourne during all its stages ; but at Adelaide and Hobart Town only the last contact was obtainable through heavy weather. ADDITIONAL TELEGRAM. It is proposed to hold the Circuit Court at Palmerston on the 8th of February. We have been favored by the Government Resident with the fol- lowing telegram : YAM CREEK, December 8. Charles Keenan and Carl Johnson, a Norwegian, had a dispute on Sunday about a few shillings. Some hours later Johnson, somewhat in liquor, renewed dispute at Keenan's tent. Sir-In your last issue I noticed an article" on the above subject which reflected sligh'ly on Mr. Hopewell, a publican, at the Ade- laide Crossing, in connection with the death ot'the late Kdwin Allen. I happened to be present when the deceased had the last nobbler in hie, and the only one which he had on the day of his death in the Q.C.E. hotel, and 1 ¿m perfectly satisfied that the publican was in no way to blamr whatever on this occasion ; and I am surprised that the evidence at :hc polt«*c investigation was so meagre on this point.
