(To the Editor of the II' 'tja/oir/ Star.) Sir, — Iu your report of a public meet ing, held at Wyalong, to consider whether or not, two members of the A W.U. should be allowed to take. the contract for shear ing, wool-roiling, 'etc., hero this season. Mr. Polkinghorne is reported to have said that he ?' doubted the truth of Mr. Johns' statement' regarding my having offered the shearing, o;i contract, five weeks ago, and he goes on to -prove this further, by arguing that, had;I done so, he must have heard of it, w'lie.h he did not, although he was in constant communication with the camp hero. That speaker's plan of bolstering up rotten arguments with abuse aud impudent charges of falsehood, is old — and infirm. It is within the A. W.U' rules, says he, for a centraetor tf- take out .shed hands, but t:iev inust not takeout shearers,— yet brith classes belong to one and the same Amal gamated Union. It is a principle of union ism, says he, to do away with the middle man—yet be, himself, ...

Wyalong Racing Club Ball. [Newspaper Article] — The Wyalong Star and Temora and Barmedman Advertiser — 26 October 1894

Wyalong Racing Club O Ball. , The ball which' took place ini ttie Victoria Hall 011 Wednesday niglit under the man agement ot tlie .commit tee.of the Wyalong Racing Club was fairly attended, about 35 to 40. couples being present. Though the night was rather warm for dancing, those present did not allow the gnod music provided by Mr. Stynes (piano ) and Air. M'Douald (violin) to go to waste., l'liere : were just enough' dancers to fill the floor comfortably, and as the proportion of sexes was pretty evenly balanced there was no ueed for any of them to sit if they wished to dance. The floor was in good order, and the catering, which was carried, out by Messrs. Herbert and Jones, the lessees of the hall, gave every satisfaction. The fol lowing particulars as to the costumes worn j are as near accurate as the ^limited facili ties at our disposal enabled us to make it ? Stockwhip Cracks. [Newspaper Article] — The Wyalong Star and Temora and Barmedman Advertiser — 26 October 1894

Stockwhip Cracks. By DOUBLETHONG. Wyalong — alias Newtown, alias   Lower Town, alias, Slee's Folly, alias anything else its friends or enemies think proper to call it — is really, without prejudice, a rather creditable attempt in shape of a township,   as Westerners admit after they have taken a stroll that way on a fine Sun day. The streets are wide, straight, and well laid out and there is, so far, plenty of breathing space. But there's the trouble. Which is rhyme, but not   meant.   # * * The point of all this is, that right in the centre of the township, in the very best spot, of all for such a pur pose, there is still reserved a wide, open space, which seems specially intended for an ornamental public garden ; a...
