DEDERANG. [Newspaper Article] — Wodonga and Towong Sentinel — 29 July 1887

DEDERANG.   The lease and goodwill of the Shamrock hotel was sold by public auction on Monday to Mr Patrick Maher, of Bethanga.     Mr T. A. Knaggs officiated as auctioneer. The rain is the principal topic here. Mount Feathertop, Bogong Mountains, and the source of the Kiewa River are heavily covered with snow, and present a grand view. The river and lagoons are brimfull. There is every probability of high floods in the Kiewa Valley next spring. As a caution to amateur dovers, I may mention that a goaded bull broke into Mr Ronan's dwelling house and did £5 worth of damage before the furious brute could be evicted, which was reluctantly paid by his owner. "Sandy," of Kiewa, in his letter of the   19th instant, stated that "your own " at Dederang was complaining that the shire   money was being squandered. I never used the word "squandered." I might inform   "Sandy" that his letters are looked upon in this l...

THE BRAGWELL PAPERS. [Newspaper Article] — Wodonga and Towong Sentinel — 5 August 1887

THE BERAGYELL PAPERS. Bravo, " Honesty I" I observed your letter in theose columns anent that eminently "spicy" journal, the Sydney Bulletin, and from the "savage fastnesses" of these regions, I send you my warmest congratu. lations and commend both your "honesty" and pluck. I think I may venture to say, however, that you misundoratood the editor of this journal when he referred to the "gibbeting" of the Revs. Johns and Drewett. I do not think that the term was made use of in any disparaging sense with regard to those gentlemen, but simply as indicating the manner in which the Bulletin aforesaid deals with those who run counter to its peculiar proclivities, I have read stray copies of that strongly flavored journal, and have come to the conclusion that the conductors of it are stray membeis of the great Bragwell family, but who, being afflicted with a plethora of wit, alnd a strong penchant for dectecting notes in everybody's eyes but their own, have wandered from the Braswell fold ...
