The Courier. PUBLISHED DAILY. MONDAY, JUNE 27, 1864. [Newspaper Article] — The Brisbane Courier — 27 June 1864

ffiíje Courier PUBLISHED DAILY. MOSE AT, JUNE 27, 18SA THE press of New South Wale3 has been almost unanimous in its condemna- tion of the spirit of morbid sympathy wliich has too generally bound expression in that colony when GARDINER, GILBERT. and their associates have been the subjects of comment. The perpetration of an atrocious deed like that committed by the scoundrel MOKOAN only a few days ago, causes but a temporary thrill of horror ; while the trilling incident of sticking up ti coach-full of passengers, firing at and wounding some, and robbing all, is looked upon rather as a creamy kind of joke. The police are laughed at,-and justly too. in many instances, no doubt,-and the bushrangers are applauded foi» imprisoning a patrol and impounding their horses, hut. with an inconsistency which would be per- fectly charming to an admirer of that quality, morbid sympathy claps its hands just as furiously when a LOWE shoots n robber dead on the highway, or a CAML> Bcti. rids the w...

BUSHRANGERS ON THE ORANGE ROAD. (From the Batharst Times, June 22.) [Newspaper Article] — The Brisbane Courier — 28 June 1864

BUSHRANGERS ON THE ORANGE ROAD. (From the Bathurst Times, June 22.) Though our distric has for months enjoyed an immunity fiom the raids of bushrangers our   highways appear doomed to become again the theatre of their depradations. A double piece of atrocity was committed on Saturday last that             will go far to revive tha feeling of insecurity   which unhappily prevailed during so many     months last year. The scene of operations however, is changed. Instead of the Carcoar         road, the robbers have taken up the route between Bathurst and Orange, and so, on Satur- day, the two mail coaches were stopped, the   passengers in each being robbed, and the mail- bags rifled     The coach for Orange and the Lachlan gene- rally starts from Mr Chapman's Club Hou...

The Courier. PUBLISHED DAILY. TUESDAY, JUNE 28, 1864. [Newspaper Article] — The Brisbane Courier — 28 June 1864

®|jc (îaurier. PUBLISHED DAILY. TUESDAY, JUXE 2S, 1861. TnE inhabitants of Warwick aro ap- parently dissatislietl with the*-. labors ol' their representative, if wo may judge from the report of'an indignation meeting held in that town on the 13th instant. Tliey fail to appreciate that.simple, chaste, anti unadorned eloquence which has so often caused Mr. WIENHOLT to command tlie applause uf a listening senate in spite ol' the few minor defects of grammar ami de- ficiency of common sense observable in his orations. The electors do not duly estimate theneg.itivequalities of their representative. Hu is tile cause of much mirth to the other members of the TIouso, although, unlike SHAKESPEAKE'S Fat Knight, he is no1 witty himself. But as an orator lie pos- sesses brevity, which weare told is Iho soul of wit ; ami this is something. Mr. WIEN- HOLT, in his senatorial seat, recalls to the spectator the reflection suggested to more than one philosopher, when surveying the fly in amber. We ma...
