A Stock Agent's License TO THE EDITOR ' S. S. AND S. JOURNAL.' Sir, — Having read ?' Agent's' let ter in your issue of the 23rd inst., we wish to state that we thoroughly agree with him in what he states, and I think that it is a subject which should not be let drop by legitimate agents. We would suggest a conference of country agents with a view to forming an association, as, besides this, there are several other matters affecting country agents which require discuss ing. Trusting this matter will be taken up by all bonafide country agents and something definite done. Yours etc., Lyne and Cahill. Nyngan, June 29th, 1896.

Kisses to the Ladies. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Stock and Station Journal — 7 July 1896

Kisses to the Ladies. A well-known firm in Pitt-street posted us an advertisement the other day, and as they had not made it clear whether they wanted io set up in their usual style we telephoned them, ask ing, ' Do you wish us to put rows of letter X's around this advertisement you have sent ? ' The answer came through, ' You call them letter X's do you. They are crosses, and are meant as kisses to the ladies. Put them in, certainly.' Now, I have no doubt many people — ladies especially — read Hordern Brothers' advertise ments in the papers without realising the gallantry of th^ firm. We put our lady readers right, however, and they will know, when looking down the bargains, Hordern's in Pitt-street are laying before them the hidden meaning of the border, which has be come a trade-mat k with the firm.

Trundle. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Stock and Station Journal — 10 July 1896

Trundle. (from our own correspondent. The weather is cold and foggy, with occasional light showers. Rain is not badly needed in the district at present. Lamb-marking is in full swing, and very fair percentages are the order considering the effects of the late drought. Crops look very promis ing, and with such a good season the hopes of agriculturists should be fully realised. The residents of Trundle are agitating for a branch line of railway from Bogan Gate, which would be, in many respects, of great service to those situated north and north-west of Trundle. The new School of Arts has been completed now some few days, and a large assemblage of people is expected on the occasion of its opening, which takes place on the 23rd July. The building is a neat and commodious one, and the lovers of dancing have ample room to satiate their desires therein.

Charges for Country Telephones. DEPUTATION TO THE POSTMASTER GENERAL. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Stock and Station Journal — 10 July 1896

Charges for Country Telephones. DEPUTATION TO THE POST MASTER GENERAL. A deputation, consisting of Messrs. Lyne, Ashton and Carroll, Ms.L.A., and J. Ross, C. J. Parsons and Bo wen, i waited upon the Postmaster-General yesterday to draw attention to the prices charged for private telephones in the country. The question they had to lay before the Hon. Jas. Cook was a simple one. The Government insists on charging for private telephone wires. Mr. Lyne told him in one instance at least it had been found cheaper to keep a boy to ride backwards and forwards with messages rather than to establish a telephone Mr. Ashton said that private telephones would act as feeders to the Government lines instead of rivals to them. Mr. Carroll, Mr. Parsons, and Mr. Ross spoke and made the matter very clear. The postmaster happens to be in a very excellent condition of mind in regard to this subject. To Mr. Cook is due the very large reductions that have been made in connection with the city telephones, ...
