Not one soul should enter- that room who couldn't keep perfectly quiet — -no, not oven Lady Dorothea herself, who couldn't calm herself, poor soul, but leant against the wall and laughed and criud b}' turns. 'Not unless you keep quiet, my lady. Come, come, now; do be sensible.' 'Oh, I'll be so good, Letts— I will indeed!' sobbed poor Lady Doro thea; and she really did try hard to still herself. And-then presently there, cninon faint voice from the bed. 'Auntiel' Not twenty Mrs. Letts could have stopped Lady Dorothea then. Shu sprang past her, and was at her darling's side the next moment; and then, when she had put her loving arms round her, and saw her blue eyes open and meeting hers once again, she was quite c.ihn. Mr. Darrell? Oh, yes, of course you want to hear about him. No body, I can tell yon, questioned his right to be there — not even Sir Peregrine...

Bega 34th Annual Show. [Newspaper Article] — The Bega Budget — 10 March 1906

Bega 34tli Annual Show. ' Tins fixture came off on Wednes day and Thursday. The atten dance was not equal to some previ ous years and this is accounted for by the continuous rain which fell in an intermittent way for sonic time nrovious, and on both clays of the show. Of course, the glorious rain came as a blessing to the Bega and surrounding districts for which all felt thankful; at the same time, there was a feeling (so human) that it would have been very nice to have had line weather for the show and the rain immediately afterwards. However, the weather could not have materially affected the exhibits, which, as far as the ring and stock pens were concerned, in point of quality were never better, the cattle in nearly every class being very fine, and lit for any show in the Common wealth. In blood horses the stal lion class, in point of numbers, was never more poorly represented, but as far as quality was eonccrneu n is enough to say that Seneschal was in the ring. Wren and llayden...

[?] [Newspaper Article] — The Bega Budget — 10 March 1906

XOBARCJU TiiEiiB is nothing sensational to report from this end and there is nothing so long as a wet week, save the faces of the farmers during a very dry time. Tho town is very quiet on account of the rain. Everybody is all smiles again. The farmers are sure of plenty of grass for the winter. Mr. !'Jack' Allen commences dairying at Wadbilliga on Monday. Mr. ' Thos. Worland is taking charge and -will make up cheese. 'Go on the land, young man,' as the shark said when he was pur-, suing the manly form of the surf bather. Last Saturday evening about 5 o'clock Mr. John Smith, of -Nariraj whilst setting snares for possums, stood his gun up against a tree, when by some moans tho weapon fell or was knocked down. Of course, Doing, loaded, it went off and put three grains of ''shot in Jack's arm about the elbow. Mr. li. J. Street had' a bit of bad luck on Monday morning — ono of his buggy ponies died. From Our Correspondents. ? MER1MBULA. A very successful meeting of .tho Morimbula Regatta Club was held at the hotel on Saturday 4th March, when it Mvas decided to hold a regatta on Easter Monday, and prize money amounting to ,£10 10s is to be given for different races. Mining seems to be the principal item hero at present. Mr. Eggins intends sending ten or fifteen tons of ore from his lease to Cockle Creek for treatment. We also had a visit for a few days from C. J. W. Stiles and the well-known miner W. Hutton of Victoria, and their prospects were far above what they expected, and they intend return ing here in a very short time to follow mining. Mr. W. II. Cadogan has boon visiting the district for Bakewcll Bros., and collecting samples of clay. Ho is well satisfied with same, and I believe intends opening up a property at an early date for tho pottery. Ward and party of Sydney, seem to be doing a good trade fishing at Morimbula, and I should say fish arc pretty plentiful by tho q...

Land Settlement. [Newspaper Article] — The Bega Budget — 10 March 1906

Land Settlement, Evkky State in the Commonwealth seems to make a more genuine effort to place settlers on the soil than New Sou Hi Wales. For a long time past intending settlers have been making for Queensland to take up hind. The conditions and terms are much easier in the northern State and the country is lightly timbered, while tho rainfall is as regular as in any but the most favored portions of New South Wales. At the present moment there are scores of South Coasters spying out the country with a view of making homes. And already a good many of our district and inter-district people have settled down in Queensland. Mr.T. J; Tarlinton, one of the most intelligent and progressive farmers on the South Coast, has made up his mind to settle in the State mentioned, and has already despatched a large draff of cattle to his newly acquired territory. And there are many others who have set hungry eyes on the rich, virgin. North.- And the smaller and more populous State of Vic toria is ah...
