THE CUSTOMS DISPUTE. (By Telegraph.) k Adelaide, Tuesday Evening. In reference to the: dispute concerning the Japanese ivories imported by Messrs Miller Anderson, it was stated that the Customs authorities were doubtful as to whetberthey should he classed as fancy goods or works of art. The Treasurer says that .the only dispute was on the value of a certain package. It was valued at £80, aad the duty was paid. After* wards a. question arose as to whether the amount in excess should be refunded. Where the customs officer failed was ia not taking out fair samples from the case,, only best samples being taken out, and the goods $eing largely of a cheap class. As a punishment for not taking out a fair simple of goods, and as a warning to others// the defaulting officer has been informed that he will be excluded . from the next Civil Service increase to' which. He would be ordinarily entitled.

He has now eeoared the co operation of the Government, and has completed the organization of a Syndicate for raising £20,000 for the preliminary expenses of floating the company in Lon don. He has made arrangements with Miss. Alice Cornwell, who is now in Melbourne, to undertake the floating of a Company. Mr Bees will shortly leare for England with that lady.
