SYDNEY. (From the Hearld) [Newspaper Article] — Clarence and Richmond Examiner and New England Advertiser — 9 December 1862

SYDNEY.       (From the Herald)   SLANDER.—A case of some importance occupied the Supreme Court, Sydney, for   several days last week. The Rev. Mr. Watt, late of the Manning River, brought an action for £2000 damages against. Mr. Flett, M.P., for slander. The alleged slander was the plaintiff came drunk to the Post Office Hotel Sydney, with a harlot, also drunk, whom he sought to pass off as his wife, and in company with whom he sought, upon this pretence, to obtain lodgings; and that, being turned away from the Post Office Hotel, he went to an oyster-shop, and remained there for a   week. The plaintiff was stated by defendant to have been identified by the latter from the description given by Mr. Jacobs, the land- lord of the Post Office Hotel. It was aver-   red that in consequence of this slander plain- tiff had lost his emoluments as minister at the Manning River. The second count &amp...
