Naturally the omission of the Government to include a line to every conceivable place in the colony has induced a large amount of Indignation from various centres deeming themselves entitled to the undoubted boon of railway, communication. But though there are some lines wnicn might with ad vantage have been favored hj the Govern ment, there are, as if to counterbalance this omission, certain lines proposed which most certainly ought not to have been. Prominent amongst these stand the Narrabri-Walgett proposal. Without wishing to enter into the -wisdom or .otherwise of running a line to the last named place, the route chosen is cer tainly open to debate. That the Govern ment has yielded to pressure in this matter can hardly be doubted^ for with the far pre ferable alternative route from Dubbo .via Coonainble to select, it is hardly possible the present proposal can have been voluntarily decided upon. To any one conversant with the country which would be touched by lines on these rou...

LOCAL AND GENERAL [Newspaper Article] — Western Herald — 20 June 1888

LOCAL AND GENERAL By the division list we notice that Mr. Wadtlell voted for and Mr. Wilson against the Payment of Members Bill Tub ability and energy displayed by Capt;.in Miller, of the Salvation Army, in the use of {je tambourine during Saturday night's street services is hardly in keeping with his sworn testimony that the Army's proceedings are not noisy. A youthful aspirant for the position of * corner man' in a Ministrel troupe would do well to take lessons from the gallant Captain. Considerable interest was evinced in the resif '; of a pigeon match, which was decided on Monday last, between Mr. Geo. Bartlett and Mr S- Zsaa:, both of this town. The match was for £10 asid', and resulted in a rather easy win for the fir.'.t named gentleman. A letter addressed to one of the Hospital con: initteetnen by a late inmate of that institution wil' . we believe, be shortly considered by the committee The communication contains certain statements o a somewhat serious nature, but as far as...
