for the Presby terian_^Banner. Soldiers* _Religions Aid Society. Messrs. Editors i-r-I fear the good people of our county are not aware of the existence of the '' Soldiers' Beligious Aid Society," appointed by the " Christian JE&bHti,_" some three weeks ago. The pbjecst, I feel assured, will commend _itselft to every Christian, and meet with a hearty response, from every man and woman, holding the " spiritual welfare" of our dear Midlers paramount to every other condition. In order to induce the soldier to give up Vice and immorality of every kind, the Committee deem it essentially necessary1 to cultivate a taste for reading where _ifedoes n6t exist and to cherish it where it doei To this end, we wish to supply each regiment, front our county_^ with good, wholesome, and attractive " reading matter." For the Presbyterian Banner. Liberality and Increase. In such times as these, it is cheering to know that jG-od has not forsaken his _Zion. While some of the churches are speaking of what the Lord is doing for them, Ebenezer congregation would add her testimony concerning the faithfulness of God. Permit me also to mention the great kindness of the people to the pastor and his wife. The Bnrnside ExpeditioB. We, at length, have news from tie expedition_, which sailed from the Chesapeake under General Burnside, on the 11th and 12th of January. Ifc consisted of 125 vessels, mostly of the smaller class, and about 15,000 troops. It encountered several very severe storms, which ¦' scattered the vessels, so that some of them had not arrived a week after ; the proper period. Aad the storm on the coast, after their arrival, was even more severe than at sea. Six vessels are known to be lost, two of them very valuable. Only nine men, so far as known, are lost. V Gen. Burnside was not dispirited. He had got nearly all the fleet over the bar, and into Paiq, - lico Sound. Fair weather had set in, and tilings looked promising. Every effort was being made to get ready for proceeding to ihe point of destination ; but whether that is Newbern and _Golds boro', or Boanoke Island and the rear of Norfolk, is something yet to be revealed. ' Gen. Burnside's dispatch is dated Febrs...

For the Presbyterian Banner,' _BeTiral at _Tarentunu Tarentum Church, for almost a year, has been without a pastor, and for a much longer time in a very deplorable condition. We were almost ready to despair, when God, in his great mercy, a few weeks since, sent us a very dear brother_/iBev. Samuel (Ramsey! whose energetic and untiring labors God has abundantly blessed. r A series of meetings, commencing with the Week of Prayer, still continues, with increasing interest. Some, of God's people have been greatly aroused, to the duty of self-examination, and are_^ beginning to repair broken down family altars, and to take up their crosses in public prayer, &c.( Last Sabbath the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper was administered by the Bev. W. G. Taylor. Thirty-seven persons were received into communion on public profession of their faith. Many more seem to he anxiously-inquiring: what they shall do to be safedv Truly;5 "The Lord hath done great things for us, _whereof we are gl...
