A Moral for Women [Newspaper Article] — Western Rural and Livestock Weekly — 23 April 1896

A Moral for Women A GOOD MAXIM , EITHER IN WAR OR HOUSEKEEPING , AND TRUE EVERYWHERE . A famous marksman says that the most wonderful shooting is done when your eyes see nothing but the mark . In target-shooting when you see only the bull s eye—the gold , and everything else fades away out of sight , then expect a wonderfully good shot . The same thing is true iri all the practical affairs of life . Have just one single aim in view and the chances are youll hit the mark . That s the way to succeed in anything ; that s the way to accomplish great things ; to have one purpose in mind and stick to it , and give all the thoughts and all the energies to accomplish that one object ; that means success . It s the same in everything ; in business , iri housekeeping , in mechanics—concentrating all the powers of the mind ori one point means success . NAPOLEONS MAXIM . Napoleons famous maxim , always concentrate your forces ; never divide them , made him the conqueror of Europe . His enemies ...

NEWS COMMENTS [Newspaper Article] — Western Rural and Livestock Weekly — 30 April 1896

NEWS COMMENTS A Nebraska court has rendered a decision to the effect that any attempt to . enforce the gold clause in a note or contract would invalidate the contract itself , because the gold clause is in opposition to the legal tender laws of this country and against public policy . Secretary Morton s management of his department has been well likened to that of the man in the scripture parable who hid his talent in a napkin and expected commendation for the care he took of it . Morton was given a well disciplined and effective department which was or ganized to advance the cause of agriculture in this country . He was given ample . money to run it and his results have been absolutely nil . He has tried his best to defeat every movement for the betterment of agriculture instituted by his predecessor and has bucked with more or less success at every attempt of Congress to show him his duty . He is now pointing with pride to the fact that he bas spent less of his . appropriation tha...

Herds , Flocks and Dairy [Newspaper Article] — Western Rural and Livestock Weekly — 30 April 1896

Herds , Flocks and Dairy , THE DAIRY OUTLOOK . Practical advertisers these days aim to furnisli their would-be patrons with something interesting or instructive as a conveyor of their advertisement . We have just had laid upon our desk a very neat pamphlet sent out by the De Laval Separator Company , 74 Courtlandt street , New York . In it they speak thus , condeeming the outlook for dairying : In considering the purchase of a separator , many who know they should really have one may perhaps 1 plead with themselves the hard times and general agricultural depression of the past few years . This is false and mistaken logic , in this respect at least .. There have been no hard times in practical dairying . On the / contrary , dairying has stood alone as almost the only profitable branch of agriculture , in recent years . Conducted with any degree of judgment , it is always profitable , has been abnormally so—in • comparison with everything else—the ; past year , and promises to be even...

Disease is like a railroad t r a i n . It has a regular way of coming and going and keeps on steadily along a certain track . You can almost always tell how a disease starts , and where it will probably end . It wont go out of its . way to oblige you any more than a locomotive will . Disease usually begins when the appetite gives out—that s the first warning whistle . Then the stomach and nutritive organs fail to supply good blood . The circulation grows poor , thin and tainted . Instead of carryingnounshmerit to the different parts , Of the body it carries poison , which settles at some point and eats away the tissues . According to where it settles it is called . liver . or kidney or , skin disease- i -scrdfula , erysipelas , eczema , or consumption if it settles on the lungs . It is . all one trouble : ¦ tainted blood ; clear but this taint arid build up the tissues with rich blood arid the disease is stopped . ; sidetracked ; it cant go any further . No matter what the nairie of...

-cheese that these samples represent was pur- ¦ chased from Chicago parties by wholesalers here as full cream cheese . The samp e of one of the cheeses was branded on the outside * in • red letters : Wisconsin full cream . Both samples are pronounced filled cheee by the chemist . Following are the words u ? e 1 by the • chemist for the analysis of the cheese marked Wisconsin full cream : From the above result I would say that this sample o ; cLeese was made from milk having its content of butter fat almost entirely removed and replaced by an animal fat of the nature-of lard . It is , in -other words , a filled cheese . I give you this information in order . to show no matter how closely this business is watched the dealers at Chicago will , through deception and other means , get their fraudulent goods before the people . With the provis i ons of the bill now before Congress enacted into a law , the branding and stamping of such cheese would at once make known its true character , a...

Can t get enough butter now for our customers . The Separator is easy to operate , thorough in separation , and very easily and quickly cleaned . No complicated machinery to take apart and wash—only three pieces . From bur experience with the No . 7 United-States Separator we would not take double the cost and dispense with it ; and for the benefit of our brother farmers arid butter producers , we heartily recommend its purchase and use .
