A. severe battle was fought on Wednes day, November 30tb,,.at Fraaklin. Ten nessee, few mile south of Nashville. The Union forces at that place were un der command of Gen. Schofield, who, npon the approach of Hood's army, at tempted to retire and nnite with the main farce under Thomas, nearer to Nashville. But the -rebel pressed bins, tooelosely, and he formed a hasty line of battle. The rebels attacked the whole line furi ously, and in great farce. At one point, they succeeded:in forcing back onr Troops; but Vressrve force rnihed np; onr men rallied, and the rebels were driven back, with the loss of. many prisoners. Bat the hardest fighting was where the rebels at tacked the main, works, defended by masked batteries. They, came np six lines deep, notwithstanding the .aitillery mowed them, down fearfully.
