LA: v7 jj ! s 11 c VOL. IX. MILFORD, PIKE COUNTY, PA., FRIDAY, A PHIL 1, 10OJ. NO. 22. THE WASHINGTON LETTER Congress, as well as the Executive, has had ninny difficult and perplexing qui"stinns to contend with, nml it has required much tact, wisdom and patience to meet them. Many of the problems have been solved; others have been postponed to a more con venient season; while a few remain to vex political parties. On the whole legislation has proceeded with com mendable, rapidity, and with caution. It is extremely dillicult to introduce new measures and transform them . into laws, or indulge in any exjieri mentnl legislation, in the lace of a presidential campaign. If many good measures fail the public will under stand that it is not that they are of themselves bad, but because (Vmgress hesitates to expend large sums when it Is necessary to practice economy to retain the confidence of the jieople. The Tost Office bill made slow progress through the House, and was closely scrutinized...
