MEADE ? COUNTY NEWS , :!. John D. Wthrle, Pub. MEADE, KAN8AS. Hasten Slowly. ' It is not well to be too eager to ao quire wealth, especially when it en tails long hours of work and constant anxiety. The other day a rich mer chant of Illinois, traveling In England, wrote home to his son, who is carrying on the business: "I am a middle aged man," he said, "and I am just learning that it is wisest to hasten slowly." In the anxiety to grow rich, he had made too much haste, and had suffered seriously in health and in the reasonable enjoyment of life. He had worked all day and all night when occasion appeared to demand it; he had taken no count of days of rest, or any other time. .It was work and scheme, ' scheme and work, all the time. He had at last awakened in 'his old age to the fact that he has made a great mistake. No one depre cates work, steady and persevering; for the young man that is, in many Instances, essential to any kind of success; but' to make oneself, a slave to the anxi...

Llndley Murray, the grammarian, a native of Pennsylvania, who died in 1826, had views of lire that were quite as correct as his principles of English grammar.. He wrote: "I was persuaded that a truly sincere mind could be at no loss to discern the just limits between a safe and competent portion and a dangerous profusion of the good things of life. Yhfese views of the subject I reduced ti practice, and terminated my mer cantile concerns when 1 had acquired a moderate competency." Until the sultan engaged a Euro peanartillery expert, Raisuli dld'-t know that the imperial forces were . firing at him. Bomb-throwing seems to be on the increase In this country. Funny that it isn't applauded as it is when it happens away off in Russia. Philologists have found that origin ally the word chauffeur meant mur derous brigand. How In the world could the meaning of it ever have been so changed? . There' is reassurance for Mr. At wood in the words from Berlin that surgery can now attach a beheaded man's head to the trunk again, that is unless the man has lost his head entirely. MEADE COUNTY NEWS f John D. Wehrle, Pub. MEADE, . . ... KANSAS Chines-View of Phrenology. "Brain bag" 1b the Chinese name for the skull, and bumps and brains in their notion are intimately allied. The skull is considered to be most perfect when it is round, with a tendency to ward a conical rise at the top. the latter feature indicating great Intel lectual powers. A "hatchet" face, with a broad, flat top to the head, means vacillation and indecision. The most Important parts of the skull are the forehead and the occiput, which is called the pillow bone. A high and broad forehead gives good hope of long life. Bumps and depressions on the occiput play an important part. Two connected bumps low down at the back of the head denote a marital temperament. A bump nearer the top shaped like an egg lying on its side denotes truthfulness and firmness; two similar egg shaped bumps standing on end, one on each side of the head, de note a fiery temperament and great self confidence; two crescent...
