The Presbyterian Synod of this Stat will hold its next hnnual session at tbi place. Drummers are plentiful. The rail road would have no need of tickets without the drummers. The city has a very emielent police, and ofmeders had better be careful. uacthita eletraph. MONROE, LA., DECEMBER 14, 1877. ISiWe shall postpone our heavy dun until next week. The Grand Jury found 35-.true bills, nearly all for minor offenses. Their written report has not reached us. District Court continues in session, and is now engaged in the trial of criminal cases. Judge Parsons, we may say to the attorneys, expects to spend Christmas at home. A lodge of Instruction was held hore Tuesday and Wednesday for the offi cers of the several Masonic lodges of this district by C. T. Dunn, Deputy DistrlctGrand Master. The attendance was not very large. The river is falling slowly, but affords water plenty for all classes of boats. The steamboat war is practically at an end, the Clara S. being about the only through packet not in the so-called Blanks line. Freights are up to full card rates. Mayor Endom and Mr. J. G. San. ders met a committee of Morehouse parish Wednesday and inspected the work necessary to be done to make a good road through Cooley swamp. The...
