SEC. I. PAGE 2 THE BASTROP COUNTY TIMES, SMITHVILLE, TEXAS 78957 i)ur/ inioiis Sniffen Around By John Sniffen While those in the 6 to 18 year-old age bracket will have little trouble remembering school lunches, the rest of us may have forgotten them. Or at least tried to do so. To refresh the memory, a school lunch was a substance which was placed upon plastic dishes and eaten with plastic utensils by academic types. There was a dab of mashed potatoes here and a slice of roast beef there, covered with a liquid rumored to be gravy. There were little round green things they told us were peas, which made a great weapon when combined with the straw supplied with the milk. After all, the milk container was usually impossible to open, so one might as well improvise. I remember that many of my school friends used to eat lunch in the cafe- teria only because the alternative, starvation, was not appealing to them. Personally, there were only two days each year I might venture to eat the cafe...

■THURSDAY, DECEMBER 14. 1978 THE BASTROP COUNTY TIMES, SM1THVILLE. TEXAS 78957 For Annexation Residents Submit Petition BASTROP--A petition for annexa- tion from residents of part of Colorado Estates was presented to the Bastrop city council Monday night. The Rev. A.H. Bohls gave the council the petition, which calls for the annexation of approximately J09 acres in the Nancy Blakey and „• M. Rousseau surveys. The land is south of Texas 71 and west of the Colorado River. The next step toward annexation will be a public hearing, to be scheduled at a later date. In other business Monday, the council heard landowner Thomas Dyke's request that the city take 10-foot easements across the site of a proposed shopping center. The easements would allow the city access to work on a pair of water lines which cross the property at the northwest corner of Chestnut Street and Texas 95.
