There is so much to do and so little time to doit. Of course, we cherish our Mondays as we get to play all kinds of table games from pool to poker, and we have a table that fits. This is the day that everyone is welcome from the beginner to the pro. Hobbies and crafts fill the Tuesday hours with movies in the afternoons. We are working on the most delight- Dixie Dickson ful photo albums to sell at Fallfest. They are perfect for single occasions from birth to confirmation to gradua- tion to retirement. Stop by to see them. We were most surprised when Jim Hilman stopped by to serenade us. We have encouraged him to perform for us: "I have lots of requests, but I sing anyway", and a marvelous job he does too. Last Wednesday was the big day of the month, as we had our Easter feast. Page 8-Section A - THE SACHSE NEWS - Thursday, April 27,2006 'A solid state of communications' Repeater aids 'hams' By Gary Burcalow, K5GLB Amateur radio enthusiasts in the Sachse area have a new tool for helping their community and for their own personal enjoyment, thanks to the generosity of one "ham," Thurman "Travis" Willingham, KD5ZKV. Willingham donated a modern, solid state UHF amateur radio repeater to the City of Sachse last month and installed it for testing. A repeater is a radio which receives a signal on one frequency and retrans- mits it over another. Just days after the repeater was installed, it was used for emergency communica- tions as major flooding was experi- enced in the Sachse area. Amateurs worked along side local public safety officials to assist with street closures as well as sever- al high water rescues. The repeater was donated with the primary intent of serving mem- bers of the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services (RACES) and the Amateur Radio Emergen...

That's the good news. fche not-so-good news is that, dur- ing this same time period, your sav- ings and net worth might have stag- nated or fallen. What does this mean for you? It could mean that when you retire, you do what a lot of cur- rent retirees are doing: using the equity in their homes to fund a large portion of their retirement. And that is not a good thing. Before looking at how retirees are tapping into their home equity, let's review a few statistics from a recent survey by the Federal Reserve. Haynes Sachse golf coach Russell Simmons has plenty of young talent on his golf team. Juniors Tripp Harty and Tyler Lutz and sophomore Ryan Knighton are blazing a path through the competition, and are helping build a winning program in the process. By placing fifth, seventh and eighth individually, out of more than 56 golfers, in the district tour- nament, this top-performing trio earned a berth for their team in the regional tournament. If a fourth team member can rise to the occasion, the Sachse team has a good chance of extending its sea- son into the state tournament. The three young men agree on many aspects of competition. Each expressed the idea that while high school golf is played as a team sport, the success of a team is still based on individual perfor- mance. To perform at the highest levels, each is c...
