Asquith, who was Home Secre tary in the last Liberal administration, 'speaking at Padiham, in Lancashire, on Saturday night, referred to the future rela tions between Great Britain and America, lie considered that the advent of the United States as a colonising and Imperial power was a good omen for the future, and declared that America was certain to become a great power in the Far East, where her interests were indentical with those of Great Britain. Mr. Asquith declared that .the political horizon was every wlieredarknnd menacing. Majpr Marchand has started pn his journey to Fashoda to bring back the French force, which he left there when ho returned to Cairo. He expects^ to reach the French port Jibutil, on the.
