NUTS. [Newspaper Article] — The People and the Collectivist — 11 August 1900

NUTS. America flmgs ber workers into BnllPens; in N.S.W. the unem ployed are to be stabled out Rand I wick way. Food is to be supplied and the floo- is to be asphalted. Did the cultu ed intellect of firen nan suggest this brilliant sch me for solving the ' Unemployed Problem ?' This is the Ca italist , Government's latest method --t puttine out of sight the 'glut of men'* the s stem it stands for has created. Whe'i men will submit without protest to b« treated as so much rubbish in a country whpre they ba^e the political power to alter thing', it almost makes one wish condition* we ea little worse. When the workers understand their economic enslavement, and grasp the meaning of Socialism, then they will kick. UNION NOTES. [Newspaper Article] — The People and the Collectivist — 11 August 1900

UNIO X NOTE S. In the econo mical organ isation o f labor known as 'rades Union i e m. the Social ist sees not only a logi -al develop, ment of the class strug gle (and a sutlicient proof in itself nf the existence of ihat strupgle. which is sometimes fooliihly or knavishly designed) : but also a' d above all a first manifestation of that class spirit, 'lass-consciousness, solidarity, which the wage-working people must fully acquire before they can achieve their complete emancipation, C.E.F. members have definitely de- I cided to accept the masters' terms until the end of the present year. Now that decision has been reached, they should prepare themselves for a determined struggle to retain the loaned 2d per ton when next January arrives.

A Privately Owned Township. [Newspaper Article] — The People and the Collectivist — 11 August 1900

A Privately Owned Township. The township rif Minmi is owiifd abs ilutelv by the Browns, How they got -t is not of very ereat impn-ranee he^e, although it is said that there is a very interest ing narrative to be made out of the transaction The fact is, they own Minmi to-day, and they draw con siderably over £2000 a year from the esidents in the fo m of rent. Mo t of thie ent comes from the miners, whose houses the Browns confissated a few yea s back, and the amount^ are deducted at the colliery office. The Minmi houses are in a de plo'able condition, the residents being under the necessity of repair ing them themselves. The Browns are always willing to find the ma terial for repairs, provided the miners agree to the price of same being stopped out of their wages at the colliery office. The condition of the roads of this et'icken township even ex ceeds that of the houses ; great holes abound at intervals, and in one place there is an accumula tion of mud that must have at tained a de...
