CALtIF:).LA. Tnt news from California is highly in teresting and important. The gold ac counts are of the most f'aourable charac ter. The product of the mines excveds the most extravagant calculations, and when the preparations now making for mining are completed, the yield must he immense. Machines for crushing the gold quartz are g.ing up i1 eera y part of the mining regions. At the latest dates there were eleven machines in operation in the southern district, and thirty-three in course of erection. IT the northern district there were eight machines in operation and twenty-six le processof erection. So far as the m::chines in operation hare been tested they have proved to be everything excpcted. Thus far the machines have been profitable, and it is estimated thLt quartz, vi.::inci on an average as low as one cent a pound will pay hezadasominy.
