YlQiity Joys Delayed, j A cabman's neglect in fnl filling a wedding contract wai : ! the subject of an unusual actioi i ! heard in the Birrainghan !f I County Court recently. Mr Hubert Boland.of Handsworth told Judge Whitehorne that n- , engaged Charles Huband, o Saltley, to drive him and th- ; bridal party to St. James j Church, Handsworth, at r.jc \ on August 1. The Judge said he be-j lieved that Boland had been{ deprived of a certain number] of hours of matrimonial com forts, and awarded him 29s. ; damages.

Sugar Inspectors. [Newspaper Article] — Chronicle and North Coast Advertiser — 26 February 1904

Sugar Inspectors. Reports have reached Sir Win. Lyne, Federal Minister for Trade and Customs, that the police supervision of the; sugarcane areas is insufficient ! to prevent unscrupulous per sons from claiming the bonus on more sugar than they have grown by white labour. It appears that in some instances there have been shadowy dis tinctions drawna between white and black labour areas, with the result that more bonus has been claimed than was earned. Sir Wm. Lyne intends to ap point four inspectors, whose special duty it will be to supervise the production of sugar by white labour.
