Hockey [Newspaper Article] — Kiama Independent — 17 September 1947

Hockey, Gerringong and Nowra Juniors played the second last match of the Shoalhaven competition at Jubilee ed up very fast with the Gongs at tacking. M. Johnson scored just five minutes after the start. The Nowra goalie was called upon to save sev eral good shots, but was equal to the occasion, J. Bryant, the fast Nowra right winger, was their best forward in the early stages of the game and often got the ball down the wing alld in position, R, Walker was playing a for'otfi .li galm at oontre for Gerringong and was able to put her side ahead with a fast shot. Now ra now took up the attack in which G. Ingold was always prominent: Several corners were forced but none converted. J. Carroll at centre half got her forwards going again in. finfle style with the result that Peggy Quinn wasable to score.an easy goal just before the half-time whistle. After the interval Nowra started off at a terrific pace, having the Gong defenders all hot and bothered. Fortunately. for the homhe team, D. B...

BLOCK DAYS [Newspaper Article] — Kiama Independent — 20 September 1947

BLOCK DAYS t Mr. F. Sedgwick, producers' repre sentative on the Milk Board, writes as follows:- The Board has. found it unavoid ably necessary to begin blocking milk this week. The ,factOrs responsible for this are: 1. The extension of the Board's contracts with North Coast factories. 2.. The ban imposed.by the Com monwealth Government on the sale of sweet cream as from 1st Septem ber. 3. Increasing production. A survey of the milk supply posi tion made by the Board early last moiith indicated that the milk zone would be unable to supply the Board's full requirements during September. Therefore, the Board had no opeion but to extend its con tracts with North Coast factories un til the end of September. Subsequent to the Board's decision the Commonweatlh Government an nounced that the sale of sweet cream with certain exceptions, would be banned on and from 1st September, 1947.. The effect of this embargo is that the Board's present requirments are about 110,000 gallons per week less ...
