Packets may be sent thri ugh the pos ■without a cover (but not fastened with anyt thing adhesive, such as gum, postage stamp, sealing wax, etc.); in a cover irely open at one end or side (if the be slit, the opening must be of the extent of the end or side, and the contents must be easy of withdrawal).., The cover may bear the sender's name and address, and the words, "packet," "sample," or "pattern," etc., as the case may be, "only." Packets may be tied with string, but officers of the department may cut the string- to examine the contents, and tie the packet up again.' BARMAH TOWNSHIP. - The two w's the weather and the war are still continuing to bringing dissappointment and regret with them and we will be glad and thank ful when providence relieves us of i the company of both. The church which was brought from Picola to Barinah last year by Mr Evan's traction engine, is being put in. order by the working uee, ; consisting of Messrs Evans, Boa!, Male, Knowels and Co. The build ing ill be ready for use in a weeks time and will be another advantage to pur township. The local tennis team were de feated by Barmah E ist on Wednes day last but had a pleasant afternoons play and were very kindly treated by the winners. The Barmah "Federal" Football Club defeated Picola on the Moira ground last Saturday in the associa tion "final" by 4 goals 6 behinds to 3 go:ils 6 behinds. It will be seen in another column that a public meeting has been called to consider the question of asking the Government to supply pumping plant for watering portion of the common. A party of about 40 men last week put in a sand-bag weir of between 400 and 500 sand-bags across the Bu:lgee, near the Moira Lakes, to divert rising water into Rat's Castle and other lakes.
