WHO SHALL RULE? [Newspaper Article] — Eagle Rock Sentinel — 22 February 1911

WHO SHALL RULE? Editor Sentinel: I want to lend my endorsement to the article printed in your last week’s issue, over the signature of \\ . J. Cook, and present a few points not mentioned therein. The matter of incorporating the City of Eagle Rock, has settled down to a question of "Who shall rule"— the real estate interests in the valley >r the private home owner. I must Say that I admire the frankness of Some of our real estate friends in stilting openly that their interest in opposing incorporation, is purely a selfish one. Having no such interest myself, my only desire i- to. secure the greatest benefits for the greatest number. I am strongly in favor of incorporation, and will give some reasons therefor. Safe to say, 90 per cent of the resi dent-' of the valley are complaining over the 75 cents per month exactly by the waiter company as a meter charge—they want, and should have, 75 cents worth of water for their money. Should we incorporate. the Hoard of 'Trustees wo...

INCORPORATION AND GOOD STREETS [Newspaper Article] — Eagle Rock Sentinel — 22 February 1911

INCORPORATION AND GOOD STREETS Eagle Rock has many streets where the street work is finely done. The condition o| these streets had much tc, do with the sale of the property to the present owners. \ot all the streets are in, some that are open are not improved, and the appearance of the Valley is uneven in this regard I he best streets are not everlasting will need attention to keep them in repair. Shoddy road work detracts I font the 1 appearance and depre ciates the value of the properly. In our present unorganized way of do ing things, who is going to care for the streets? •Not the tract owners and agents, for their work is done. Their inter ests are sold, and they are exploiting other property. Not the absentee owner of vacant lots. He is waiting for the resident homebuilder to make the vacant prop city more valuable for selling putposes. ilis taxes are low and tin benefit ill all improvements comes to him. Not the home builder for he usually has all he can do to build his home,...

editorial notes [Newspaper Article] — Eagle Rock Sentinel — 22 February 1911

editorial notes Owing to the large number oi coin- I munications on the subject of incoi)ioration the "Sentinel” has greatly, reduced the volume of news matter this week in order to give way to the many articles pertaining to this piojeet which the editor considers as being far more important at this time. All the articles on incorporation have been contributed by various persons and the publisher desclaims any responsibility for views expressed therein, whether signed or not. Arguments have been invited from both those who are in favor of the move-1 ment and those who oppose and no matter has been omitted. However, strange it may seem, the opposition has sent in absolutely no communi:ali‘ nis.

Incorporation Paragraphs [Newspaper Article] — Eagle Rock Sentinel — 22 February 1911

Incorporation Paragraphs Von have wanted Incorporation fori a year. Now the opportunity is given you. Metier get into the wagon and go with the crowd. Make it such a success that by the time Occidental is completed they will be clamoring for admission. Probably not over 50 per cent of ■nr street work would comply with I ,os Angeles requirements for such work. Annexation under these conditions would entail great expense before our streets would be accepted. Metier incorporate first—streets accepted by a corporation must be accepted by I.os Angeles it we consol idale. The first incorporation petition presented to the Hoard of Stipends .it's placed the west line .of the new cm east of the Kagle Rock Water Company's reservoir. The committee amended the next petition by pushing the west line over to Verdngo road. This was done at the urgent request j of one who is not a stockholder in the 1 Water Company. We have three county roads in Cagle Rock: Colorado street. Central avenue and Sycam...
