The speaker was "Dan Quinn" the well known writer of wild and woolly western character and dialect stories according to the Chicago Inter-Ocean. Since the Withdrawal of "the greater part of the troops from this place an omnious change has taken place in the demeanor of the men on strike. Grievances are now being discussed and eratic reme- dies suggested openly in the streets. A riot was nearly precipitated in the afternoori through a fight between one of the strikers John Bourkc and a watchman named Foley. The prompt arrival of the troops" however pre- vented a crisis. The anxiety felt as to' the result of the final withdrawal of the troops seems only too well founded. Sixty of the company's houses were vacated by the strikers for most pan old employers.
