She asked that the county install a drainage pipe and grade the road on a turn where standing water makes it impassable. The road was in Precinct 4 until the county was rcdistricted earlier this year, and now lies in Precinct 1. SEC. I. PAGE 2 THE BASTROP COUNTY TIMES, SMITHV1LLE, TEXAS 78957 THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 30.1978 mions Up The Creek By Kay Webb Well, well. The Smithville City Council, sitting as the Light and Water Board, is talking about buying a boring machine for the city's use. I do wish that the council had been more specific. What kind of boring machine do they plan to buy? How bored do they want to be? They can't find a way to be bored on their own, and have to get a machine to do it for them? If they want a machine that's really boring and don't want to spent much money, they could all troop down to the hardware store, hand over a few green American dollars and come away with a good old claw hammer. Now, that's boring. No moving parts, no batteries, no accessories. Doesn't do anything, just sits there. A body could be bored for weeks on end with a claw hammer. If they want to get into this thing a little deeper, they could spring for a vacuum cleaner. Using a vacuum cleaner is, most people agre...

Marrs explained that this was not unusuai siiicc pecan trees tend to bear their fruits in two year cycles, with good years alternating with bad ones. He also noted, however, that the last three to four seasons have seen poor outputs, which he attributed to the generally dry conditions. "The pecan's a thirsty tree and it'll hunt right through the soil for that water if it's there. There just hasn't been any for them." Marrs said. In fact, the 1978 crop was 4§ days later than its usual fruition da...
