The Sslstcia Stock. Mr, T. N. Grierson, the manager of I Bodallu Dairy, New South Wales, in a recent reply to South Australian farmers, spoke in high terms of praise reeardinc the Holstein as dairy Ktouk. Ho Bays : — ' We find them henry milkers, very docile, with excellent tents, which is a great consideration where n large nunilwr of cows are to milk. To fiivejou some idna of their grent milking qualities, 1 may state that during last spring, and well into the Bunimof mouths, on grass alone, a number of the pure-bred cows averaged 4gal. por day, and one of them, which I exhibited at a loeal show, where a prize was given for the cow of any breed Riving the greatest yiuld of milk, gave 571b iu the 24 hours. This cow had to l»e driven sixteen miles the previous dity, and had nothing but green feed. At the same show I ex hibited two of our south coast breed of dairy cows, which at home were equally as good milkers, but when they got amongst strangers ? and strange places got excited a...

l|any People Suffer a martyrdom of headnches and back aches, due to irregular habits and defec tiTo'action of the bowels. Such tioubles are clue to a sluggish liver, which does not secvete sufficient bile to properly evacuate the bowels, and prevents the expulsion of the waste material collected from all parts of the body. Piles, fistulas, abBce&ses, and inflammation all arise from neglect of these fundamental laws of nature. If mankind will disobey the rules which en sure perfect health, and ovor-work, over feed, and over-drink, they mubt pny the penalty. As a remedy and goneidl regu ator of the system for persons suffering in a hereditary way for their ancestor? ne^ect or over indulgence, wo recommend Dr.' Fletcher's Pills aB being the best the werlJ produces, and the safest and most harmless medicine extant. Australian Federation. TO THE EDITOR OR THE SHOVLHAVEN NEWS. [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser — 29 July 1893

Australian Federation TO THE BDIXOB OPTBJB SHOAXHAVEN HEWS. Sir,— The spectacle of a man floundering helplessly in a quagmire of Jus own forma tion is such a pitiable sight that one's contempt for the ' engineer hoiit by his own petard ' becomes merged in pity. That 'Ajax' has only succeeded in entangling himself in toils of his own manufacture is but too evident, and iu his. last attempt to extricate himself he is, as usual, so far from being lucid that what he does say means nothing. It may be that this is his misfortune and he may be more of a simpleton than I take him to be, bub the transparency of his shuffling would seem to indicate that ' Ajax ' is trying to sail under false colours. At all events', one thing is plain as daylight, and . it is this, that ' Ajax ' is no more fit to counsel people in the ways of Federation, than Canute wasfit to stop the incoming tide. My warmest thanks are due to ' Ajax ' for his information regarding the difference between Imperial and Indepen...

The Gas Question. [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser — 29 July 1893

The Gas Question Thosb persons who attended the rate payers' meeting at the latter end of last week to consider the ' burning Suestion 'of lighting the town, -which as been too long a time undecided, ?will doubtless Agree, after reading the report thereof in last Wednesdays issue, that the meeting was not in any way satisfactory. Although it was in tended that the action of the Municipal Council in regard to the question should be discussed, there was daring the meeting no explanation or statement of any kind to enlighten the rate payers on the subject of past proceed ings in the matter, nor was there any discussion in due form aa to the action of the Council. Even the motions sub mitted were rather disappointing. One Asked that the Council should proceed further in the- matter of lighting; the other that the authorities be asked to light the principal parts of the town with kerosene. Both motions were lost and the meeting broke up without having gained bat little information other ...

A Xbs New Laad Legislation. * 'TO THE EO1TOB. The Shoalhaven Electorate. [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser — 29 July 1893

Tne Shoalnaven Electorate The Returning officer for Shoalhaven (Mr. Z. G. Bice, J.P.) has lately been in communication with the Electoral Districts Commissioners on the subject of the redistribution of the electoral boundaries of this district, as contem plated by the new Electoral Act. In a letter directed to His Honor Judge Murray, Mr. Bice pointed out the unsatisfactory boundary Jine as it »^ affects tho small settlement of the ^E. Sassafras, about 30 miles from Nowra. % There are between twenty and thirty | electors residing, there. The road dividing this small settlement into two parts is the boundary between the Braidwood and Sboalhaven electorates, leaving not a sufficient number of electors in either district to justify a returning-officor recommending a poll ing place there. If the dividing line, Mr. Biole suggests, was put on one side of the settUment, a polling place might be appointed there, and the residents would be able to vote without travelling Buch long distances a...
