Cash v. Credit. [Newspaper Article] — The Scrutineer — 1 July 1892

(Dsi-sli v- (Dt'Ctlit. In all parts of the commercial world this question is onco moro becoming one of prominence, aud particularly with regard to retail^ business. Transactions between importors, distributing houses, and store keepers are moro or less conducted on a regular system, and there is no need for special comment. But everywhereit is being seen that tho ovil of the credit system for retailers is so serious that something must bo done to prevent serious results. No one, of course, would advocate any resort to a strict cash system all round. Cash scores do exist and flourish in some localities, but it is just as apparent that others tind a limited credit system, with proper safeguards, quite ns satisfactory and profitable, and that certain to tho nominal purchaso really, since, until paid for, a tliii!£? cannot be fully bought. Naturally, the tendency is to over-buy, and to incur liabilities which subsequently cannot bo mot. Tlio army of ' bad marks' — tho Islnnaelites of tl...
