Poeket Picking Coincidences. [Newspaper Article] — Moree Gwydir Examiner and General Advertiser — 7 January 1902

Poeket Picking Coincidences. Some months ago the papers reported that a lady travelling in one of the trams found that she bad been robbed of her purse, and loudly bewailed tha face till she discovered on reaching home that the thief had left a valuable ring, by mistake no doubt, in her pocket while abstracting the purse, the contents of whioh were not large. A siugularly similar oase is reported in a recen1-. London paper. A Udy and her daughter while shopping in Regent-street notioed that they were being followed by a stylishly dressed man. The pertinaoity with which he kept near them annoyed them so much that they drove to Charing Oross, and entered an A, P.O. shop, hoping thus to be rid of him, but were muoh exasperated to see on ooming out half an hour later, the unwelcome stranger standing near the door. The elder lady thereupon called a cab, and instructed the driver to take thorn to their home in ono of the suburbs. On arrival, when tho daughter went to take her puree, frm h...

Its Impossible to Disprove Facts. IT IS DECIDEDLY EA8Y TO VEVMFY MOREE OPINION. Nothing by way of an introduction could be added to the experiences and opinions given below, which could increase their value. Moree people can safely be left to draw their own conclusions based on such convincing proof as this citizen offers. What is there lacking in evidence like this to satisfy a dyed-in-the-wool doubting Thomas ? Mrs. A._ Bayley, Boston-street, this town, says : ' i'or the past eight years I have been bid with my kidueyB, Off and on this ailment ha» caused me a lot of agony. Buttle Abbey Sale. [Newspaper Article] — Moree Gwydir Examiner and General Advertiser — 7 January 1902

Battle Abbey Sale. It is not every day that a piece of British history is knocked down to the highest biddor, but the sale of Battle Abbey by auction on November 26 last transferred the ownership of ground which, from its association with the battle of Hastings, is in separably bound up with the story of the British nation. Upon this spot Harold made his last stand against the conquering Norman. It was four years after the battle that William the Conqueror gave orders to build upon this spot an abbey to commemorate his victory, it was this ancient structure, with a modern wing, to gether with the lands surrounding it, that was sold. Thu last owner was the late Duchess of Cleveland, mother of Lord Rosebery, and for this reason it was thought that Lord Roseberry might himself purchase the estate. A large crowd assembled, so large, in fact, that the sale had to be trans ferred to the great hall of Winchester House, old Broad-street, The auctioneer Joseph Stower, said he had received mo...
